Dynamic Duo (Co-Founders)

James "Jim" Blauvelt is a highly experienced construction professional whose career spans over three decades with a BA in Accounting and a "Hands-On" degree in Construction. He began his hands-on training in the construction trades during the 1990s, establishing a strong foundation by specializing in basement and foundation projects. From there, he expanded his skillset, gaining proficiency in rough and finish framing, full exterior installation (including roofing, siding, and windows), and detailed interior work. While Jim is fully capable of managing a project from the ground up, he holds specific, recognized expertise in roofing.

Maria Blauvelt is -as she puts it, an architect of leadership. With her education in Organizational Leadership, Instructional Design, and Business Psychology, and hands-on work with major institutions like Nationwide Children’s Hospital, American Electric Power, and Columbus State Community College, Maria has built her career on one core belief: strong groups start with strong leadership. She has designed customized strategies for teams struggling with cultural challenges, personality clashes, or life trials that disrupt careers. In every case, her approach is the same: assess without judgment, discover root causes, co-create actionable steps, and follow up to ensure real change.

How We Got Started

In 2022, Jim and his wife officially launched Bluefield Group LLC, an owner-operated small business. Based in Columbus, Ohio, this new venture represents their commitment to bringing decades of hands-on experience, proven expertise, and a reputation for quality to clients in Columbus and its surrounding areas.

The Name “Blauvelt”

The name Blauvelt has Dutch origins, dating back to the 17th century. It is a combination of two Dutch words: blauw (“blue”) and velt (“field”).

So, the literal English translation of Blauvelt is “blue field”

— a name that evokes open skies, trust, and expansive possibility.

Why “Group” Instead of “Renovation” or “Construction”?

You might wonder why we chose Bluefield Group LLC as a company name — not “Bluefield Renovation” or “Bluefield Construction.”

The word "Group" was intentional. While “Renovation” or “Construction” would describe what we do, “Group” describes how we do it.

A single contractor working alone can build a wall — but a "Group" brings together a variety of experiences in renovations who communicate like a crew that’s worked together for years. That’s where quality and efficiency come from.

“Group” signals:
